Why did I "revive" this site?
Over the past three to four years, I've had to deal with increasing numbers of PR, ah, "professionals."
Many poor SOBs get stuck with the job as a part of marketing or marketing communications or just because there ain't no one else that can do they job. I have a lot of sympathy for those folks because I was there once, doing 27 jobs mon (except the trash, I didn't take out the trash; they didn't give me enough equity to take out the trash) and fumbling my way along. Hopefully, this site will provide enough clue to help those people out.
In other cases, you have well-meaning, but young (VERY young) PR "professionals" straight out of college who want to try the latest and snappiest things because they're making low-wages and need to impress their boss (who is billing them out at $75-100 per hour while they're lucky if they're making $20/hour) to keep their jobs.
Finally, there are a number of people who hire PR firms and just let them run off to do whatever they want, until they've been paying the $5000-$20,000/month retainer for a couple of months and wonder why in the heck they don't even have a footnote in the local business newspaper. If you are going to write large checks to a name-brand PR firm, you should know and understand what they are -- and aren't -- capable of doing.
